Just Like Marley’s Ghost

I’m not sure if you’ll get the reference, but I think it’s my intention we all become like Marley’s ghost.  You may recall that he’s the dead partner of Ebeneezer Scrooge, who comes back to offer Scrooge a chance at reclaiming his lost soul.  He may be a ghoul, but he actually cares.  He’s trying to get the old man to see the error of his ways and correct them in time to do something wonderful with his life and wealth.  If you know the story, it’s not that Scrooge started out that way.  In fact, he was actually earnest and innocent.  A crooked world and some harsh circumstances created the “grasping, wrenching, scraping, covetous old sinner” that millions of readers know him to be.

So, in a way, we’re Marley’s ghost.  At least about English we are.  I’m hoping that together, you and I can rejuvenate our enthusiasm for all things literary, informational and narrative.  That we can infuse ourselves with a new sense of purpose as part of the bigger, better entity that the Newburgh Enlarged City School District is becoming.  And that we can take our ambitions -individually, collectively – as far as humanly possible this year, by sheer force of will and the power of belief in ourselves and our NFA North community.
