Thesis Statement for an Argument Essay
Your thesis statement should contain these three things:
Attention-grabbing beginning Description of issue Opinion Statement
I know – this type of argument is not arguing a position on an issue. It’s arguing a point that you are going to insist is true about the texts you have studied.
For instance, if I used these texts to argue that, let’s say, the women in the texts are treated as insignificant or as props for men, I might say:
Sometimes writers, while trying to highlight the attributes of one character, give completely unfair and negative treatment to another, which makes the overall story less interesting. The characters in these three bildungsromans, or coming of age stories (A Bronx Tale, Finding Forrester and Down These Mean Streets), that receive less attention are the women. They are not the main characters, and their supporting roles are used to highlight the changes in the male protagonists , but this takes away from the richness of the stories.
Your thesis statement must be constructed in this way. (No colors necessary.)
YOUR PROMPT:
The Bildungsroman is a story of formation, novel of education, or coming-of-age story. It focuses on the psychological and moral growth of the protagonist from youth to adulthood (coming of age), in which character change is extremely important, In the three texts we have studied, discuss the role of character change and growth in its many forms – spiritual, moral, emotional, physical and mental.
